In my last post I mentioned I would share my garbage bag trick for my diaper genie. I'm sorry I took so long to update my blog but I'm certain I didn't keep anyone waiting. Basically, I got tired of buying those expensive diaper genie refills. I told my husband that i was going to figure out a way to use our regular garbage bags instead and he laughed and wished me luck. I have determination and since google failed in finding the results, I had to figure it out on my own. Basically, I use the Glad tall kitchen bags. I use the glad garbage bags with the four corners that you tie; not the draw string bags. I kept the ring from the last genie refill as well because you will need it to tie the garbage bag flaps to it. Just another form of recycling.
Using the empty ring, open up the garbage bag and put the flaps through the ring.
With the four flaps through the ring you can do a mental count numbering each flap in a clockwise manner.
Wrap flap 1 over and under the ring to meet flap 2; then tie in a knot.
Do not wrap flap 2, simply tie together with flap 1.
Repeat the same steps for flap 3 and 4.
Place ring back into garbage pail.
And that is how you use the regular garbage bags with your diaper genie II. I prefer this method -not only because it is cheaper but also because it holds more diapers since the glad bag is not skinny. I like that the dirty diapers fall into the bottom easier as well. With the refills I would have push the dirty diapers so they would go down and there would usually be some kind of disgusting moisture that would get on my hands. yuck! It takes the same amount of time to use regular garbage bags and tie two knots as it does to put in a brand new refill. Good luck. I'll post pictures if anyone needs further instructions but it is so easy.
